THE CUB DOES A GUEST BLOG! (Peggy)
Los Angeles to Lake Placid (by way of Montreal).
First of all: how great is the bear’s blog!? I love reading it before bed or with my coffee in the morning. My husband Bill and I will go: “did you hear about the [?!]”
Woke up at the ass crack of dawn and recognized my lyft driver named Micole who took me to LAX. I work for a labor union that is organizing gig workers so a few months ago when Micole gave me another early-morning-airport-ride, we spoke about Lyft and Uber drivers coming together to stand up for better working conditions. We were glad to jump right back into our conversation: AB5 just passed another big hurdle in California which will stop these big gig companies from calling its employees “independent contractors.” Pretty exciting! :)
An international stop seemed easier than having to take a connecting flight to the domestic airports near Lake Placid. You gotta love Montreal!! It’s like France but friendly!
WE GOT STOPPED AT THE US/CANADA BORDER!!! The car we were driving was rented through Turo—an app that’s basically airB&B for car rentals and the US Customs and Border control did not like that! Thank goodness I left my weed at home!
We had to wait inside while they searched the car and interrogated us about entering our home country. πππππππππ

After having all our cavities searched we got into upstate New York—and it’s pretty as heck! Beautiful river along the little highway into Lake Placid.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go get shitfaced with my cousins.

the Bear's addition/edition:
Nice night's sleep at Favor's house (did I mention that it is on Bear Cub Lane?). Cup of tea and Beth and I took a hike in some local woods.
Checked out downtown Lake Placid.
It was a trip down memory lane for Beth. She spent many summers here in her youth. We saw the bar where she worked as a cocktail waitress; the beach where she swam every day on Mirror Lake.
We still have not walked over to the site of the family farm. It is now developed with a bunch of McMansions. I think Beth feels uneasy going over there.
I napped while Beth hung out with family. They swam and boated on Mirror Lake.
Point of clarification: The town is called Lake Placid but it is on Mirror Lake. There is actually a Lake Placid, but I don't know if I have ever seen it. Odd.
Pizza and salad and beer and wine (and a little Clase Azul) tonite at Favor's. Lots of family. The reunion has begun.
Beth, Gail and Kat
Tomorrow there is a boat ride for everyone on the REAL Lake Placid.
Love,
