Goodlands to Badlands
Slightly different format today. I usually take notes during the day and write from them. I took no notes today. But, I have a lot of pictures. I'll see how this turns out.
I got up early and sat in the living room with Ed talking about life over a cup of coffee. Mary made us all breakfast. The highlight was Ed's smoked bacon. Beth took a solo morning walk.
Ed and Mary took us on a tour of Minneapolis. First stop was the sculpture garden outside the Walker Art Museum. This was the Cherry Spoonbridge
No bears. This was the only animal figure I could find all day
This was Ed cleverly photographing us taking a selfie
Local boy makes good
We toured the Guthrie Theatre, Bridge to nowhere and Yellow Vision
Good views of the old flour mills from up there
We walked across the Mississippi River on the old stone bridge.
There was a show of old bicycles on the bridge.
A reflection of the day
Soup for lunch. Beth and I took a time out and planned out our next few days in the Badlands and Yellowstone. We are seeing light at the end of the tunnel. We will drive home from Yellowstone, with a few stops on the way. There is no hurry. But, we have been traveling a LONG time.
We got take out Thai food and ate in. We discussed travel experiences and plans. We talked about our varying experiences surrounding the death of our parents. We reminisced again about past summer dinners around the big white dinner table in Berkeley. I found a few old pictures of dinners in Berkeley and Kensington with David and June.
We are having a hard time leaving. Ed and Mary feel like family. We were so welcome and comfortable in their home. Only hotels and strangers from here on out.
We have been so lucky on this trip. So many good friends have taken us in and pampered us: Levin, Laura and Fred, Elizabeth, TomKat, Favor and Diane, Greg and Sandi, Ed and Mary.
We leave the Goodlands for the Badlands tomorrow.
Love,
bear and Beth
