Lake Placid Smith Family Reunion Day One (Day 22) September 13, 2019

Staying at Favor's. Slow morning. I hung out, drank coffee and listened to Favor's stories. Beth went on a walk in Henry's Woods. Peg and Meyer slept in.

We went into town for a simple breakfast. It is Beth's birthday. I stopped in to the bookstore to get her a card. The lady at the counter tried to shame me over a penny! The card was $3.23. I gave her a $20 bill and grabbed three pennies from the extra penny container. I gave her the bill and the pennies. She said, "one or two is acceptable" (with attitude). I was flabbergasted. I am proud of my restraint. I just gave her the three pennies from the jar and thought to myself, REALLY! you are trying to shame me about a penny. I just laughed to myself and walked out. I told Meyer what happened and we laughed about it.

We met up with the full family reunion crew at the real Lake Placid for a boat tour. Kudos to Kat and Alison for setting up the boat tour. More honor to Gail for the T-shirts. Gail has ruach (spirit).

We saw the actual Fat lady’s house - where she sang (Kate Smith)

Lake Placid is not in my life experience. A lot of elaborate ritzy camp, with private boat houses. My family did not vacation enough. We certainly did not go to private camps with boats. I have never water skiied. I was deprived. I have a slight chip on my shoulder.

We are fascinated with the super rich. We heard about how Bruce Springsteen summers here. We saw John Bogle's summer home. We heard about the camp that has a movie theater, bowling alley and an arcade.

Back at the dock we took some family pix, including the dynamic six Sinnott sisters:

Meg, Sarah, Gail, Beth, Kate, Carol

Cousin Alison gave us a tour of Heaven Hill farm where grandpa Favor Smith worked.  The farmhouse was simpler than I expected. The family has mixed feelings because the owner of the farm promised to give Grandpa Smith the property he lived on (Pine Brook Farm) but reneged after Grandpa died.

Gail put on a "Gran" party at 115 North Woods drive, the mansion she and Carol rented.

Great food from Green Goddess in town and lots of wine and booze. Geoff got the stereo gong and the gang danced for hours.

Back to Favor's for some sleep. Tomorrow is the main event - a big party at Favor's. It is almost midnight. I am done!

Love,

bear, Beth, Peg, Meyer
