Stopover Day in Washington, D.C. (Day 13) September 4, 2019

Second day in DC. I find myself drawn to cities. It feels exhilarating to walk around the hustle and bustle.

It occurred to me while walking this morning that being retired is like being on vacation. Being on vacation, when you’re retired, is like being on vacation - cubed. Beth and I are REALLY LUCKY. I have never felt this free.

We walked around town all the way from Hotel Melrose (near Foggy Bottom) to Capitol Hill.

Beth wanted to tour the Capitol Building. I decided this was a good time to try out a Lime Scooter. I had never ridden one of the new ubiquitous contraptions.

I rode it to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

I enjoyed the Gems and Minerals. I am fascinated by meteors and meteorites. Many made of extraordinary metals. Extraterrestrial.

Met back up with Beth. She wanted to see the First Ladies Exhibit at the American History Museum.

Lunched at Old Ebbitt Grill. Bernie Baltaxe recommended it. Very good. Excellent ambience.

It is possible to get healthy food in DC. If - you have the willpower to choose the path with heart. I am taking a vacation from my diet on this trip...

Walked by a wacko lady near the White House running for President; if only she stood a chance!

Dinner at Stachowski's Market in Georgetown. SIL Bill Weber's fave. As advertised, the sandwich was as big as a newborn baby. Hot pastrami. Very smoky. The best pastrami I have ever eaten. (I really mean it this time Peg). Beth and I shared a sandwich and could not finish it.

Walking home from Dinner I stopped for a bottle of my favorite tequila, Clase Azul. More adventures to follow...

We are debating where to go tomorrow. Big Apple or elsewhere. Beth's cousin Kathy recommended Philadelphia. That is our likely destination.

Tried to reach Sue Feinberg. Sorry to miss her. C'est la vie.

Love

Bear and Beth
